Membership

As a member of the London Potters' Guild you are part of an enthusiastic group of potters - of all ages and all levels of skills from beginners to professionals.

The London Potters' Guild was formed in 1981 to encourage the growth and development of local potters, to improve skills and to foster a high standard of craftsmanship. The guild was started by a handful of dedicated potters, many of whom are still members, and has grown in the past two decades to a thriving, bustling guild with a current membership of over 100 potters. Its members are interested in and practice all areas of claywork - from handbuilding to wheel-thrown work, from sculpture to functional pottery, from pit-fired and raku to the most sophisticated computer-controlled electric firing.

Membership Responsibilities
Ours is a working guild where each member is expected to contribute to the organizational and promotional activities of the Guild. There are many areas in which you can participate - you choose the ones that interest you and contact the person who is the current volunteer leader of that activity on the executive to offer your help. Some of the activities include:

And of course, as a studio member, you are expected to clean up after yourself and participate in the general upkeep of this shared space.

Membership Levels and Fees
To be a member of the London Potters Guild everyone pays a “General Guild Membership” fee.

As a regular guild member , you are eligible for all the benefits of studio membership listed above. You work at your own studio and can rent the studio kiln for $25 to fire your wares. You must help in mixing glazes unless you use your own. Fees for Guild membership are listed below:

As a studio member, you have access to the studio from 9am to 9pm every day. You are responsible - along with the other studio members - in keeping the studio safe and clean, mixing glazes and loading/unloading kilns. There are a number of workshops each year during which the studio managers will explain the workings of the studio, all the jobs that have to be done, and how to do them properly. Each member must sign up for the duties listed and he/she is responsible for those tasks.

If you wish to have full-time access to the studio facilities you must also pay an additional Studio fee, listed below:

Monthly Meetings
The London Potters Guild meetings take place on the second Tuesday of each month between September and May with a Raku party (at a member's studio) in June to start the summer off on a fun note.
